Drop & Top
Many people think the season for swimming pools starts when the sun comes out – and for obvious reasons, it does. But, that is just for swimming or relaxing in the pool. However, in the winter, we witness many different issues. We must regularly clear debris and discharge rain when winter storms affect the swimming pool. However, this is advantageous when you think about it. Every time we drain the water, it helps reduce the pool’s Cyanuric Acid and Calcium hardness.
The key here is to keep dropping the water even when it is not brimming to the top. Why? Each time we lower the water level, we reduce the concentration of Cyanuric Acid, Calcium and the total dissolved solids purely by dilution.
We call this “Drop & top”. Drop the water one foot per month in January, February & March – and even in April and top up with fresh water. This method is the only way to dilute these elements in your pool water each time you top up again.
Removing Cyanuric Acid, Calcium, and total dissolved solids using the drop & top method maintains a balanced pool for use in summer.
You will witness cleaner water, a better-managed water equilibrium, and fewer chemicals used during the height of summer. When you take care of your pool in the winter, you will benefit enormously in summer. Take advantage of the Drop & Top method this winter and see the difference when you’re ready again to start using your pool.
